Situated on Shimogamo-hon-dori Street, west of Shimogamo-jinja Shrine and the Tadasu-no-mori forest, Imura Art Museum is operated by Kyoto Bisho, Co., Ltd., a dealer in Occidental antiques, centered round vintage Baccarat crystal, as well as Japanese Hizen porcelains, including Ko-Imari, Kakiemon, and Imaemon articles. After Yoshihiro Imura, who currently serves as the director of the museum, took over his father’s collection, he used to often visit Europe in order to let Kakiemon and Imaemon works outside Japan “return home.” Since he became fascinated with vintage Baccarat articles, which had fallen into oblivion in history, during these visits, he has continued to research and collect them. Furthermore, to share their artistic value with a wider art audience, he has put those works on display at the museum and even sells some at a gallery.
In 2024, a basement exhibition room started hosting exhibitions of Occidental and Japanese antiques, as well as contemporary artworks.
