Entrance to the Omotesenke Kitayama Kaikan

Highlights

The museum disseminates the culture of the Japanese tea ceremony in three ways: exhibitions, lectures and workshops.

Experience and Familiarize Yourself with Chanoyu Culture

Why not experience the essence of the tea ceremony through exhibitions, lectures and workshops?

The exhibitions show sets of tea utensils from the collection of the Grand Master of Omotesenke, giving you a glimpse of the wabi-cha tea ceremony perfected by Sen no Rikyu.

You can also get a deeper understanding of chanoyu culture through lectures which are given by various guest lecturers, including uchi-deshi apprentices to the Grand Master and cultural figures.

At workshops you can experience preparing tea.

Please visit the museum and enjoy a bowl of tea with seasonal Japanese sweets. We hope you will immerse yourself in a time of pure serenity.
