A chance to use all your senses in disaster prevention training

The center has various zones designed to allow visitors to learn from firsthand experience how to act in response a disaster, such as an earthquake, typhoon, or fire. The zones include the Earthquake Experience zone, where you can experience horizontal shaking up to a seismic intensity of 7, the Evacuation Experience zone, where you can try evacuating through smoke, the Strong Wind Experience zone, where a strong wind of 32 meters per second blows on you, and the Fire Drill zone, where you can take part in simulated firefighting using fire extinguishers and indoor fire hydrants, as well as a 4D theater showing how an underground shopping mall can be flooded. On the third floor is a real firefighting helicopter on display. The Kyoto City Disaster Prevention Center is aimed at allowing people to develop the capabilities to make the right decisions and act appropriately in the event of a major disaster. Here you can obtain knowledge of disaster prevention and practical emergency skills, both of which are essential in the event of a disaster, through seeing, hearing, touching, and feeling, thereby increasing your disaster prevention awareness and your ability in emergency action in order to protect the safety of your everyday life.
