Highlights

Original hands-on scientific exhibits and a planetarium, as well as a Family Science Room for small children and their families

Curiosity is the genesis of understanding science

This facility allows people of all ages to enjoy learning about science and technology through a number of hands-on exhibits, including a Talking Tyrannosaurus, a Future Globe, and a Drone Lab.
New exhibits have been added to the exhibition one after another, including Geo Area KYOTO, where projection mapping is used to enable visitors to visually learn about Kyoto’s geology, and a Collision Lab, which is designed for visitors to experiment with a billiards table and balls, repeatedly colliding a cue ball with a target ball, in order to learn physical mechanics. The museum also has a Family Science Room, where small children and their families can play. Many enjoyable events for parents and children are also held mainly on weekends and holidays, such as “Science Live” events. The planetarium features original programs with live commentaries. A highlight in the outdoor garden, where rocks and plants are on display, is a Butterfly House, where you can observe Okinawan butterflies. Next to the Butterfly House is a Science Learning Area operated in collaboration with Takeda Garden for Medicinal Plant Conservation, Kyoto, where you can observe food plants for butterflies and medicinal plants.
