A place where makers and users meet

Gallery of Kyoto Traditional Arts and Crafts was opened in 2003 to introduce the beauty and exquisiteness of Japanese traditional artworks, which Kyoto has been receiving high reputation from the world.
The first to fourth floors feature permanent exhibits of masterpieces by leading artists of traditional arts as well as works by the students of Kyoto Arts and Crafts University, Traditional Arts Super College of Kyoto, and Kyoto Architectural Super College of Design, which are affiliated with the Nihonmatsu Gakuin educational institution. Their works include Buddhist sculpture, ceramic art, lacquer art, bamboo art, woodwork, wood carving, metal art, Japanese hand-made paper art, hand-painted Yuzen dyeing, and architectural models. There is a special demonstration corner where young artists demonstrate their skills and traditional craftsmanship every day, and the works by graduates who are currently active as professional artists are on display and for sale.
