Experience the Fascination of Kyoto-style Ceramics

Kyoto, long known as “the Capital”, has been the hotspot for culture and art in the country. To meet the diverse needs of the imperial court, warrior clans, wealthy merchants, temples and shrines, Kyoto ware and Kiyomizu ware have developed a wide variety of styles reflecting the trend of each era. Kyoto Ceramic Center was built in Gojozaka, where the origin of Kiyomizu ware, to know Kyoto ware and Kiyomizu ware more accessible and familiar to the public.

You can enjoy a variety of ceramic by people active in Kyoto, from famous ceramists and craftpeople to up-and-coming young ceramists, is on display and for sale, and the demonstrations by Kyoto's ceramist here to provide visitors with the opportunity to see the various steps involved in the making of wares, including the master's unique techniques. Additionally, the gallery on the 2nd floor hosts ongoing exhibitions featuring ceramists acting in Kyoto from various place also international, as well as up-and-coming young ceramists. Here you can experience the unique fascination of Kyoto-style ceramics up close under the natural light.
