The entrance to the Kyoto Kaleidoscope Museum

Highlights

You will experience the charm and excitement of kaleidoscopes like you've never seen before. You can also experience making your own one-of-a-kind kaleidoscope.

An art weaving light with mirrors

The museum regularly exhibits around 50 kaleidoscopes from its collection of around 400 pieces, including those by artists from Japan and abroad. The exhibits are changed three to four times a year according to a different theme, and you can feel free to touch and look at any of the kaleidoscopes on display. Kaleidoscopes are not toys, but works of art that offer new encounters and moving experiences. In the exhibition room, staff will carefully explain how to look at the kaleidoscopes, and you can also experience making your own one-of-a-kind kaleidoscope in about 30 minutes under the guidance of staff.

Additionally, in the exhibition space, you can view a projection kaleidoscope for approximately five minutes every hour, with the kaleidoscope projected onto the ceiling and walls of the exhibition room, creating a fantastical world that you can enjoy.
