An exhibition room displaying contemporary art

Highlights

Offering a glimpse of the courtyard beyond - the art nouveau poise of an Italian iron door wrought with flowers and insects

Traditional Kyoto culture supported by a local credit union

Opened in 2009, with the goal of offering easy access to the arts of Kyoto for locals and tourists from around the world, this museum aims to stimulate and create legacies for local arts and cultures. The museum holds exhibitions of artists such as connected to the Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank or being sponsored by the Chushin Art Foundation and theme-based exhibitions four times a year. Although small, the museum makes the most of its space, so that visitors can appreciate exhibits at their leisure.
The light orange, rounded exterior, copper-plated roof, the swirling design of the entrance gate and the art nouveau poise of the Italian wrought iron door, all add to the Southern European feel of the museum’s facade. And, with colonnades and marble stairs and stucco walls in the courtyard, the mind drifts to Mediterranean ruins and a sense of relaxation, which is what the museum hopes to project while visitors are enjoying the art inside.
