Learn about Doshisha
The Doshisha Gallery is in the Harris Science Hall (National Important Cultural Property), one of the distinctive representational red brick wings that make up the Imadegawa Campus of Doshisha University.
Since opening in 2013, the gallery has been exhibiting a permanent exhibition embracing six themes: “Doshisha’s path”, “Jo Niijima (Neesima) - the person and his ideas”, “Doshisha as it is now”, “Doshisha in the world”, “Doshisha in Kyoto” and “J.N. Harris and Doshisha”. And, through these themes, the gallery introduces the human side and the ideas of Jo Niijima, the founder of Doshisha, along with Doshisha’s history and motto as well as showing how Doshisha is connected to Kyoto and the world through manuscripts, materials and relics. In addition, the gallery also serves to showcase the research activities and extra-curricular activities of both the teaching faculty and the students. Thus, the gallery sheds light on Doshisha from the past, the present and the future.
Also, on the 2nd floor, the gallery stages planned exhibitions several times a year on themes related to Doshisha, which attract a wide range of visitors across all generations.
