Q.Question put to you by the Museum
“What do you believe peace is?”

Everyone has the potential to
demonstrate their individual talents
What prevents that?
What threatens their lives and livelihood?
What choice would you make if anything
threatened your life and livelihood?

Even if we are facing immediate difficulties that we cannot solve alone, we must explore the background and consider how we can create a more hopeful future.
Throughout its history, humanity has faced various crises. Among these, war has remained the greatest, threatening the very existence of humanity.
War divides people into friends and foes and between those who can take part in war (labeled as “useful”) and those who cannot (“useless”). War has also urged people to utilize the most advanced technology and knowledge in order to defeat their enemies. Exploring the background of war means considering how we can create a more hopeful future in the true sense of the term.

The exhibition at Kyoto Museum for World Peace, Ritsumeikan University is titled “PEACE × PIECE”. Focusing on the period from the 19th century, when the world rushed into war, to the 21st century, the exhibition explores what has threatened human life and livelihood and consequently prevented people from demonstrating their own talents, as well as what choices we have made in response to such situations.
Let’s set out on a journey in search of the “pieces of peace” with a view to taking action of our own.
